Hi, I’m Shani — and I help women in midlife rediscover their spark through my blog for women over 50.

Why I Started This Blog for Women Over 50

In just a few weeks, my youngest will be off to college. The house is getting quieter. My schedule is opening up in strange new ways. And I’ve been asking myself — what do I want now?

This blog is my answer.

The Midlife Refresh is more than a personal journal. It’s a blog for women over 50 who are starting over, or starting something they’ve been putting off for decades. It’s for us — the caretakers, the givers, the go-go-goers — who suddenly realize it’s our turn. Whether that means rediscovering morning routines that actually serve us, exploring creativity, or simply feeling seen again, this space is here for you.

I’m really good at…

Setting up systems that keep life flowing — because when you’re juggling a million transitions, the little things matter. I love creating order from chaos, and I dive headfirst into new hobbies and skills. My friends joke that I collect degrees and certifications like some people collect mugs.

Professionally, I’m a National Board Certified Health and Wellness Coach and a Speech-Language Pathologist. I’ve spent years helping others find their voice — sometimes literally. That background taught me the power of listening deeply, making meaningful changes, and believing in someone even when they’re still figuring it out.

I walk nearly every day and recently picked up the ukulele, piano, and guitar — slowly but joyfully. I also love dance fitness (I grew up dancing), and any excuse to move to music makes me feel alive again.

Midlife Fresh Starts: A Blog for Women Over 50 Who Are Reinventing Life

I struggle with aging. I wrestle with the mirror more often than I’d like to admit. Sometimes I wonder if there’s still room in the world for women like me. But this season has also taught me that we get to rewrite the story — and there’s so much more ahead.

For years, I kept a small flame lit — performing here and there, taking classes, learning new things. But now? I want to go for it. Really go for it. I want to create, to perform, to put my voice out into the world without second-guessing if it’s too late. I’m not just returning to myself — I’m giving myself permission to take up space.

If you’re feeling that too, you’re not alone. Whether you’re reimagining your career, recommitting to your health, grieving a loss, or just craving something more, I want you to know: you’re not too old, too late, or too far gone. You’re right on time.

This blog for women over 50 is for you. For us. Let’s walk it together — one brave, beautiful, imperfect step at a time.

A few things about me (for fun):

  1. I’m about to become an empty nester (cue tears and a little dancing).
  2. I love collecting degrees, certifications, and hobbies like it’s an Olympic sport.
  3. I dance and sing around the kitchen more than I probably should.
  4. Coffee is non-negotiable.
  5. Paper calendars make me weirdly happy.
  6. I walk almost daily, especially when I’m overwhelmed.
  7. I love musicals and could break into a full chorus at any moment.
  8. I geek out on organizing systems and planners.
  9. My reflection sometimes surprises me, but I’m working on loving her.
  10. I believe it’s never, ever too late.

If I could leave you with one thing, it’s this:

I see you. You’re not invisible. You’re not done. You are just getting started.
